Skills & Experience Need:
• A minimum 7 years experience as a technical writer in positions of significant responsibility
• A clearly organized and formatted resume (Your resume is the first writing sample that we examine.)
• A polished portfolio of publications that backs up your resume
• A bachelor’s degree is required.
• A Master’s degree in any field as evidence of advanced analytical and writing skills is strongly desired.
• Expert knowledge (meaning, requiring no retraining or support) and recent work experience with the following:
- Frame Maker 9 (If you do not have expert Frame Maker skills, do not apply.)
Note: We require significant experience manipulating and inserting screen captures and other graphics in Frame Maker documents
- Madcap Flare (If you do not have expert Flare skills, do not apply.)
- Acrobat 9
- Dream weaver and expert ability to code HTML by hand
- Visio
- Microsoft Office (You must have expertise in using the Outlook calendar to set up meetings.)
• Ability to create and modify documents based on templates in these tools and the ability to work fast in these tools.
• Candidates with certification in FrameMaker and MadCap Flare will be preferred.
• Work experience with the following technologies:
- XML, schemas, and DTDs
- Object-oriented programming language, either Java or C++
• Expertise writing and revising the following types of documentation:
- XML messages
- Data mapping
- Object-oriented API documentation
- Online help
- User Guides
Note: This contract requires a combination of the abilities to write and revise both technical (XML messages, data mapping) and user documentation (online help, user guides). However, the majority of the work will be documenting XML messages; therefore, any candidates must have a high threshold for producing this type of work.
• Candidates must be able to learn about post-trade processing products fast, in a non-stop, hectic, fast-paced work environment. The ideal candidate is an experienced technical writer with significant experience in the securities industry. The ideal candidate should be proficient with both technical and user documentation and must be flexible about assignments.
• Top-notch interviewing capabilities to obtain the information needed to do the job in situations where specifications and working software are unavailable
• The ability to produce a high quantity of work that is of high quality in a non-stop environment where down time is unusual.
• A high degree of resiliency to change and adaptability:
- You must be willing to cooperate with other writers in working on files in an environment of changing priorities.
- You cannot let a sense of ownership impede cooperation with others to get a quality job done in a timely way.
• Full-time (40 hours), on-site in work in Boston is required. This is not a work-at-home job.
• Ability to interact with a wide range of individuals and maintain a pleasant disposition, even in difficult situations.
• Top-notch organizational skills and attention to detail required for:
- Following up on issues and email message
- Incorporating complicated series of review comments
- Keeping track of multiple versions of documents
- Executing projects according to requirements
• To succeed in our environment, you must be fastidious about keeping track of files and working in specified areas of the LAN.
• Contractors must be willing to follow instructions and adhere to Our client’s documentation requirements and direction without giving criticism or showing resentment toward those requirements.
• Work experience with DITA is a definite plus, since the Documentation team may do a pilot project involving DITA in 2010.
