XP Administrator in only Safe Mode - Help!

By: Shailesh Singh | 17 Sep 2008 8:49 pm

I'm sorry I come to the surface only with problems.

I had a service place I bought a 2nd hand laptop from reinstall XP Pro as it was sluggish.

They must have named a new Administrator "zz" as that's the only user identity booting into Normal Mode. But my old programs aren't
there or my email - which I need.

In Safe Mode there is the "zz" account and one called Administrator.
Only in this Administrator is everything in place.

I've tried every variant I can think of. How do I get access to the original Adminstrator account back in Normal Mode. It's not listed as
a choice.

I've even tried removing the "zz" acount in Safe Mode, but it's also called an adminstrator account and won't delete.

Don't know if this is unusual or if there's an easy soloution.

Have a business to run and need my email progam receiving as usual.

Thanks for any help.

Try logging into Administrator in Safe Mode and then in Users, under
Administrator account, there should be a check mark to " make files
private" try and uncheck it and see what that does. Also while in Safe
Mode create a new account with Administrator Priviledges and then copy
or move all the files in the zz documents and settings to the new
account, You may have to go into Control Panel/Folder Properties under
"view tab" and choose to show all hidden files and folders, and UNcheck
the boxes for "hide extensions for known file types" and also "hide
protected operating system files".

After creating the new account then boot normal and choose that account,
then go into users and delete the zz account and choose to save the
files to the desktop. That way you know you wont loose them until you
make sure everything copied alright.
