Wireless Mouse

By: rekha singh | 14 Feb 2010 5:05 pm

Silly question, but can someone tell me how I change the battery in a wireless mouse?  Mine is a MS Notebook Optical Mouse Model 3000, and I can't see to find a way to get the darned thing apart to change the battery.

At the back end of the mouse (other end from the wheel), you'll find a chrome button. Push the button to release the cover catch. Removing the cover reveals the battery. You should be able to change it now.

Thanks, I was able to change the battery in my non-functioning wireless mouse.  Now my problem is it's still non-functioning even with the new battery.

I suspect mice - like there users can just wear out and have to be replaced.  Correct assumption?  anything else I should try before hitting the "mouse store"?

Did you already try connecting with the receiver? You have to do this sometimes after changing the batteries.

Is there a green or red light on the USB receiver? Remove the receiver and plug it back in again. See if there's a connect button on the receiver itself. But there may not be on this kind of receiver.

Then press the button on the bottom of the mouse to make the connection. It's usually a small red or green connect button. You can use a pen to press it if necessary. There may also be a reset button on the bottom of the mouse. Or even an on/off switch. Play around with these and I think your mouse will start working again.

Thanks. I'll give that a try - My laptop is at home, and I'm not at the present time.  I assume by "receiver", you mean the little USB type thing that is snapped in and stored on the bottom of the mouse when not in use????  I'll give your suggestions a try when I get home.

Did you 'pair' it up with the part that's attached to your computer via USB port? This has a button on it as does the underside of the mouse. You have to hit the button on both (not simultaneously) while they are facing each other. This lets the mouse communicate with your computer. I have a Logitech wireless mouse and that's how this one works. Hope this was clearer than mud...lol

I know others have provided you the instructions about the little button on the bottom of the USB part and the mouse part.  However, when you put the new battery in did the red light on the bottom of the mouse light up.  I ask because I know someone who put the battery in backwards and the light did not come on.  When the battery was turned around then everything was okay.

You can get the documentation for the mouse here

Thanks to all who have been helpful, and yes, I did have the battery in backwards. I thought I put the new one in the same way the old one came out - alas - not so.  thanks again to all. All seems to be funcitioning well now, with a red light flashing on the bottom of the mouse, and a green light on the USB plug in portion.
