Large Monitor wanted
By: rekha singh | 24 May 2010 3:20 pm
I have a 22 inch monitor on my 2-1/2 year old HP desktop but want to get one a good deal larger such as 36" or more. The computer does not have an HDMI port. Can I just use any size LCD TV as a monitor?
What about hertz on the TV?
Do I lose any function over my 22" connection?
How large of a flat screen computer monitor can I buy and what will it cost?
CommentsSamsung has the largest LCD monitor screen at 40" I would get a monitor in preference to using a TV.

I am going to guess - which may invite a correction - that a monitor handles color differently than a TV_ and that while a computer monitor can be used to watch TV, a television might be an unsatisfactory display for high res graphics.
Size relates to two things: how much money you have, and whether your video card will suitably drive the big-screen of your choice.

Only problem with this is that the maximum resolution is 1024 x 768. This would be fine for anyone with vision issues but, as the article says, if you want added real estate, this one won't do that. If you're currently running a 22" widescreen at 1280 x 768, you would lose desktop real estate. Probably a very nice TV/monitor but...

We've just sold a camera system connected to a computer and a 42" LCD TV, that has a VGA Input as well. Works absolutely perfectly! Most (if not all) LCD TVs here are fitted with VGA inputs as well, so no problem.
