Laptop connecting wirelessly

By: rekha singh | 29 Mar 2010 12:49 pm

My daughter is staying with me for the weekend and brought her new laptop.

I have a Linksys router and a Zoom modem. My OS is Windows XP.She has a Gateway laptop with built-in wireless and Windows 7 OS.

For some reason, she is unable to connect to the internet here at my house. Is there a security setting that we need to configure to allow this? This is the first time she's used the laptop outside of her own home since purchase (hasn't taken it to Starbucks etc) -- has had no problems connecting wirelessly to her home router.

Thank you for any suggestions! !!

Did you type in the correct case-sensitive network password when her laptop detected the internet signal from your router?

You wireless connection should have been set up with a WAP security and you will know what that is. Your computer will probably connect automatically but without the security number she cannot. She could connect by Ethernet cable if you have one though.

If yours is a cable connection you need to log into the routers web site and turn on the wireless connection there.
