This was no help.I already have the sp3 cd to install on my computer.I even went so far as to be instructed by microsoft to replace missing ,dll files in my registry, and also copy and past a lot of codes into my note pad, transfer to a desk top file and double click to load and then try to download sp3 after disabling Bitdefender and then restart before installing sp3.But still I get the same message.I had ie8 sp3 before but my computer got corrupted and redid xp.I did install more memory from 256mb to 1.25 gb.I am also thinking of going from a 80 gb hard drive to 250 gb.Will a new hard drive help?

Thank you.

A new drive just gives you more space and cannot fix missing ddl files.

Why not go into the Control Panel/Add Remove Programs and remove all the SP files and start from scratch.

Are you refering to the .net framework 2,3,3.5 for sp1+2 files?MIKE

By: rekha singh | 16 Jun 2010

I am not talking about net Framework at all. Where do you get that idea

This is all I saw in my add/remove folder with anything to do with sp2 or 1.My Secunia program notified me lately that my Windows xp is unstable after re-installing xp.I even did two repairs two different ways.I even did a [chkdsk].I have till July 11 to get sp3 in my computer. After that no longer supported by Microsoft. Is there a program or website that I can check out my hard drive. It certainly is not loading my xp correctly. As i stated before that I use to have IE8 with sp3.I followed the instructions from Microsoft  on un-installing sp3 before downloading IE8.Then reload sp3.It worked great untill I got performance problems. My computer slowed dramatically. This is the third time I have re-installed xp in the past 6 years.I have also read that is the limit for re-installing xp.I have read from the IT professionals that they do not recommend loading Windows 7 onto an old computer. Is this right?I did the test and Microsoft says all I needed to get

Windows 7 is to install more memory and a larger hard drive.I usually wait awhile before updating anything untill I've read that people find it works properly.I hope I have given enough information for this problem.

Thank you for the help.

How much Ram memory do you have and is your virtual memory set high enough? At least 2gb or more and enoght hard drive to set the Virtual memory high.

Go here for the memory needs.

I have added 1gb of physical memory which now I have 1.280gb of memory.I have 700mb left.I have 2gb virtual memory with 1.88 gb left.My page file space is 2.35 gb.I have a 80 gb of hard drive with 50% free space.I have a Celeron[r]cpu 2.60GHz processor.I have set my page file as "system managed size.I wasn't sure of the custom size.It was between 1 and 2 gb.MIKE

When you talk of physical memory I guess you mean RAM, so what is the .280. Ram cards go up in stages 256mb,512mb, 1gb which equals 1gb=1024mb.

The Celeron is the slower of that range, My AMD has a 2500Mhz prosessor

Your Virtual memory seems adequate, I run mine at 3500mb.

This is what MS says.

If you want to run Windows 7 on your PC, here's what it takes:
1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
Additional requirements to use certain features:
Internet access (fees may apply)
Depending on resolution, video playback may require additional memory and advanced graphics hardware
For some Windows Media Center functionality a TV tuner and additional hardware may be required
Windows Touch and Tablet PCs require specific hardware HomeGroup requires a network and PCs running Windows 7
DVD/CD authoring requires a compatible optical drive
BitLocker requires Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 1.2
BitLocker To Go requires a USB flash drive
Windows XP Mode requires an additional 1 GB of RAM, an additional 15 GB of available hard disk space, and a processor capable of hardware virtualization with Intel VT or AMD-V turned on Music and sound require audio output
Product functionality and graphics may vary based on your system configuration. Some features may require advanced or additional hardware.
I think 2gb RAM is the minimum and 2Ghz processor but double this for real peace of mind.

The 1.280gb is the total physical memory that I have.My card is 256mb which I added 1gb.My celeron processor is small.I've decided to increase my memory to 2gb,buy a 160gb hard drive and then re-install my windows xp.I am suspicious about my OS on the 80gb hard drive and I'm finding too many files for sp3 in my computer when I search for it.I am also puzzled as when I download a large program and later un-install it.Then much later re-install the same program, why does it take a much shorter time to reload.I suspect that when I un-install it,it just de-activates it untill you re-activate it when you re-install it. I still favor xp over Vista, and Windows 7 is just too new.I like to read of people that are happy with new programs instead of being a ginea pig.

Wish me luck.

Thanks.

OK 80gb HD would be sufficient for most users running XP but if you store loads on files, photos and videos it is very small but todays standard when 250gb is generally the norm on new computers. 11/2 gb RAM is enough for your XP but go to www.crucial.com and run their free scan to make sure you get the right memory cards and can mix the sizes in your memory sockets, it is not always possible.

Delete those SP3 files and start from scratch.

As for the time factor when re-installing programs, when you uninstall you leave register links and other bits behind, the new install uses those it finds already there.

Win 7 is not consider new now it is considered the best out of MS for years and better that any former version. It will also run on less resources than Vista or XP needed. Many have been using it for over a year now.

As to the stuff left over get ccleaner from www.ccleaner.com and un it to clean out broken and useless link on your computer.
