No display on monitors
By: rekha singh | 27 Mar 2010 4:07 pm
We have a pc that is in our tech room, attached to two monitors with a dual video card via KVM extenders. The monitors are in the studio. It's normally left on with the monitors turned off when not in use.
Someone went to turn the monitors on today and found they did not display anything apart from "hewlett packard". The computer is switched on and the keyboard, also connected by kvm extender is lit up.
The pc has been turned off and rebooted several times but with no difference. I don't know if anything appears initially and then disappears or if nothing shows at all. The person who called me to tell me the problem couldn't seem to grasp the idea of looking to see if anything appeared initially or nothing at all!
I am only repeating what I have been told about what's wrong so there may be something else that has been missed.
Any thoughts as to what might be wrong/where I can start looking. My initial guess would be the dual video card. I was going to test it with another monitor plugged direct into the card first which would eliminate the KVM extenders and also show if the card is working or not?
Anthing else I can try?
CommentsYour set up appears rather strange to me. For one computer to be used on multiple stations you need a KVM splitter not dual video cards.

Try new cards then, But the KVM splitter is more stable.
